The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office says On Saturday, July 30, 2022, between the timeframe of 10:33 p.m. and 10:42 p.m. a 2017 DT8 Dump Trailer was stolen from the Hungerford Growers Gin. The photos shown on Facebook are of the suspect vehicle that committed the theft. The vehicle left the scene going North on Highway 60. The vehicle appears to be a Chevrolet 1500 Z71.

The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office says On Friday, July 15, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m. a 2021 Grand Design Transcend Xplor 221 camper was stolen from the front parking lot area of R&M Firearms in El Campo. There’s a video up on Facebook, and it is that of the suspect vehicle leaving the scene. The vehicle left the scene, crossed over and into the entrance to El Campo Sheet Metal and shortly thereafter left travelling North on Highway 59. If anyone has information, please contact Sgt. Rodriguez at the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division or anonymously to the Wharton County Crime Stoppers.

The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office says On 08/11/2022 shortly after 8:00 AM, a member of the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit attempted to stop a white Ford F-250 for an unsafe lane change on U. S. 59 North in the area of Hillje. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, and a lengthy pursuit ensued. The driver of the Ford was traveling at speeds of 100 MPH during the pursuit. The driver exited U. S. 59 in Pierce and entered the Pierce Ranch. The driver of the Ford traveled several miles inside of the Pierce Ranch and drove through heavy brush. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle but were able to follow the vehicle tracks along the Colorado River. The vehicle was located abandoned in an area of heavy brush just north of CR 444. A lengthy search for the subjects was conducted. DPS Air 102 assisted with the search, but none of the subjects were located. The vehicle was later confirmed to be stolen out of Houston.

Today is the Bay City High School Back to School Bash 2022, in the high school cafeteria. It runs 10am until 2pm. Organizational booths will offer school supplies, backpacks, health screenings, haircuts, vaccines, dental screenings, phsyicals, and fun games and prizes.
RWE Renewables Peyton Creek Wind Farm located at 4120 CR 222 Bay City Tx, 77414 will be conducting a school supply drive for Matagorda County ISD! The wind farm will be supplying backpacks with school supplies for Elementary and Middle School students that are in need on August 15, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Students will be able to build their own backpacks, school supplies will be organized on the tables and they can build their own backpack of supplies.
The El Campo Police Department reminds that school is starting! Please drive slowly and watch for children in school zones. The first couple of weeks usually take a bit longer for drop-offs and pick-ups until everyone gets into the “groove” of things. Please be patient if things take a little longer than expected.
The Red Cross is in urgent need of blood donations. Did you know about 62% of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood? But, only about 3% does. By making an appointment to help save lives with the American Red Cross in August, donors can pump up the blood supply and keep it from falling to shortage levels. As a thank-you, all who come to give Aug. 1-31 will be automatically entered for a chance to win gas for a year, a $6,000 value. There will be three lucky winners.
